My power went out. How do I get my outdoor lights working again?
The first thing to do is get power restored. You can check the outlet with an outlet tester or by using a cellphone charger to see if the outlet charges your phone. Once power is restored, assuming the timer retained its programming or the lights are on a photocell, the lights should come back on that night!
My outdoor lights suddenly stopped working. What should I do?
The first thing to do is check power to your high-voltage outlet. An outlet can be tripped, and there still be a display on our digital timer since it has battery backup. An outlet can also be tripped, and there may be no breakers tripped.
The easiest way to test power to an outlet is to take a cell phone charger to the outlet the transformer is plugged into, plug it in, and see if it charges your phone.
If it doesn’t charge the phone, the first thing to do is to try to restore power to the outlet, often by finding the GFCI outlet with a test/reset button. This is often located in your garage.
If there is power to the outlet and the lights still aren’t coming on, please call (919) 523-0561 us for further troubleshooting or to schedule service.
My outdoor lights are coming on during the day. How can I fix this?
This typically occurs when the timer programming gets interrupted due to loss of high-voltage power, resulting in the backup batteries failing. Once the backup batteries fail, the timer programming can get out of sync and cause the lights to come on at improper hours.
There are YouTube tutorials on how to reprogram our most common timers, Intermatic DT200LT and Intermatic DT620, or you can call us (919) 523-0561, and we can walk you through programming over the phone.
What types of outdoor lighting do you install?

Can you add outdoor lighting to an existing landscape?
We can add new outdoor lighting to an existing lighting system. Sometimes this requires us to size up the low-voltage transformer for increased capacity, but not always. We can assist with evaluating how much more lighting you can add and recommend any necessary upgrades to ensure the system runs smoothly.
Can outdoor lighting be controlled automatically?
Yes, most of our outdoor lighting systems turn on and off automatically either via a photocell light sensor or digital timer. You can also have manual control with programming through the use of smart plugs or modules if desired.
How long do LED landscape lights typically last?
Typically, LED bulbs last between 3-5 years. It is not out of the ordinary for a random bulb to fail within a couple of years, but some LED bulbs will burn for 7-8+ years with no issues. This is where having lifetime warranties on the bulbs is a huge value add.
Can you upgrade an older outdoor lighting system to low-voltage LED?
We can upgrade older Halogen bulb-based low-voltage lighting systems to LED bulbs.

We do not service high-voltage outdoor lighting, but we have electricians we can recommend
Will outdoor lighting increase my electric bill?
Low-voltage outdoor lighting should not increase your energy bill by more than $2.00 to $5.00 per month.
Does landscape lighting require regular maintenance?
Landscape lighting can require regular maintenance. The most common maintenance required is changing bulbs when they dim or go out. Keeping bushes regularly pruned so they don’t block the lighting on the house is important to maintain the original look achieved on the house.
Downlighting, or lights mounted up in trees shining down on an area, can use regular maintenance to make sure the mounting hardware doesn’t get absorbed into the tree as it grows.
In both commercial and residential areas where landscapers operate, sometimes lights can get knocked out of aim or become crooked, so keeping an eye on these areas and re-aiming and leveling lights is helpful to keep everything looking perfect.
What color temperature is best for landscape lighting?
2700K is the most common color temperature for residential uplighting. To us, it is the most elegant and inviting look on residential properties, and even in many commercial cases.
In some residential cases, 3000K may be preferred.
In some commercial cases and for more functional lighting (sport courts, for example), higher kelvin values such as 4000-6000K can be utilized to sufficiently light a space.
